Join us for an unforgettable Global Adventures excursion to the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse—one of Colorado’s most unique and storied architectural gems. A gift of peace and friendship from Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Boulder in 1987, the teahouse was handcrafted by over 40 master artisans using centuries-old techniques, then meticulously disassembled, shipped, and reconstructed in Boulder. With its hand-carved cedar columns, vivid ceramic tiles, and intricately painted ceilings, the teahouse stands as a powerful symbol of international cooperation and cultural diplomacy. The visit complements our Echoes of the Red Era exhibit and the Global Village Museum’s mission to celebrate global traditions that transcend borders. Guests will also have time to explore a special location in Boulder before we gather for an elegant British-style Afternoon Tea at 3:00 PM—featuring a three-tiered tray of sweet and savory delights, fine tea service, and the ambiance of Persian artistry.
Our new Volunteer and Collections Manager, Sam Hensley, will serve as the staff representative on the trip. With a background in Japanese Tea Ceremony, Sam will share fascinating insights into tea practices across Asia—including Tajik and Japanese traditions—and how they compare to the British-style tea time featured in the program. He will also discuss the rich symbolism found in the teahouse’s architecture, painted ceilings, and intricate motifs. The $90 program fee ($70 for Museum Members) includes round-trip transportation from Fort Collins, the cultural program, Afternoon Tea, all taxes, and tips.
