Inspirational Women ~ Rising Through Adversity

The Hall Gallery exhibit, curated by the Zonta Club of Fort Collins, will honor women who have risen from adversity to make a difference in
the lives of other women.

“Our exhibit is part of the celebration of 100 years of Zonta International,” said Julie Trone, Event Chair for the local club. “Women have been helping other women for centuries in the areas of civil rights, healthcare, education, and peace. We will be paying tribute to women both local and worldwide.”  Honorees will include Amelia Earhart, the Women’s Peace Party of 1915, Nobel Peace Prize winners,
and suffragettes from Great Britain and the United States. Local hero Jovita Lobato will also be recognized. Lobato, born into a Fort Collins migrant family who worked in the sugar beet fields, broke racial and discriminatory barriers in the face of considerable obstacles and opposition. She was the first Hispanic to graduate from Fort Collins High School and Colorado State University.

Zonta International, founded in 1919, is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. The Zonta Club of Fort Collins was organized in 2013 and supports single moms and high school youth in Northern Colorado. Inspirational Women ~ Rising Through Adversity runs through Feb. 22, 2020.
