VIP and Members-Only reception for Hall Gallery Opening

Photographic Colors of East Africa debuts Friday, Jan. 5, at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. The VIP and Members-Only reception from 4-6 pm will be followed by half-price admission for the public from 6-9 pm as part of Fort Collins Gallery Walk.
On display are the photographs of local resident Dr. Gerald Olsen, an ophthalmologist in Fort Collins since 1972 who is now retired. Since 1995, Dr. Olsen has travelled to Africa nine times, most recently in 2015.
“I have used nine different cameras over the years,” said Olsen. “I concentrated on the faces of people and the wildlife in Africa. I got close to lions, but never had a problem. That said, I’ve had three close calls with elephants who were not pleased that we got so close to them.”
From lions and giraffes in Tanzania to indigenous cultures in Ethiopia’s Omo Valley, Olsen’s photographs capture the vibrant and fascinating nature of East Africa. The exhibit runs through March 17, 2018.
