Homeschool Tips and Tales from Moms on the Road
January 20, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
$5Traveling with children during the school term often means homeschooling on the road, either by parents or through online courses. Advice and options for globe-trotting families will be offered at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures.
From 1-3 pm Saturday, Jan. 20, Homeschool Tips While Traveling will share the thrills and challenges of two Colorado families who incorporated school instruction into their journeys. Troy Krotz, Homeschool Coordinator for the Poudre School District, will open the program with an overview of Colorado’s homeschool guidelines as well as PSD recommendations.
In 2006, Karen and Tom Barsch of Denver backpacked around the world for five months with their two sons, in sixth and eighth grades. In 2014, Julie and John Trone of Fort Collins took their ninth-grade, twin boys on a trip through Europe and to Morocco.
The Barsch boys were homeschooled by their parents, whereas the Trone family chose an on-line course of study. Their experiences—both positive and sometimes problematic—can serve as a guide to parents ranging from professionals on sabbatical to vacationers in search of a more diverse education. Admission to the presentation is $5/adult with Museum members free.
