Artifact Donations
Thank you for your interest in contributing to the Global Village Museum’s permanent collections. Unfortunately, we are not accepting new donations to the collections at this time. Please contact Sam Hensley, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, at collections@globalvillagemuseum.org with any questions.
Why isn’t the museum accepting new artifacts?
We are currently conducting a full inventory of the permanent collections to better understand the strengths and needs of the objects we already have. This takes up a large amount of staff and volunteer focus, and we need to dedicate ourselves fully to this project to ensure that it is completed thoroughly and correctly. In addition, we are preparing to move to a new facility within the next few years, and need to be sure that the entire collection is adequately documented, researched, and cared for before it is moved.
Will you resume collecting new objects in the future?
Yes, although we do not currently have a firm date set for when we will reopen collections donations. When we begin collecting again, we will be prioritizing specific geographic and cultural focus areas that we can accurately represent in exhibitions and that we have the capacity to adequately care for. When the time comes, we will announce any collecting updates via our newsletter and this webpage.
What if I can’t wait and need to donate my items somewhere now?
We understand that not everyone has the capacity to hold their items for a future donation and may need to give them away more urgently. You may contact other local institutions, such as the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art, Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising, or Fort Collins Museum of Discovery to see if they might be interested in collecting your objects. If you would like recommendations more suited to your specific objects, please contact Sam Hensley at collections@globalvillagemuseum.org.
